Для получения книг по темам, указанным в условиях конкурса нужно ответить на вопросы анкеты. Обращаем Ваше внимание, что анкеты для участия в конкурсе должны быть направлены прямо в Институт "Открытое общество" в Будапеште на английском языке. Списки литературы, которую можно будет заказать по этой программе: CORE COLLECTION ON DRUGS AND DRUG ABUSE, UNDERSTANDING ROMA, RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BOOKS ON VOLUNTEERISM, Violence Against Women, Women's Health and Girls Issues.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPETITION FOR CORE COLLECTIONS

In 1999 OSI Network Library Program is starting a new initiative: Core Collection Development Program. The NLP is working with other OSI Network Programs to offer libraries and other institutions in the region core collections on subjects related to OSI's mission. The offered collections will support issues crucial for open society.

We are pleased to announce competition for obtaining core collection on the following subjects:
Violence against women
Drugs and Drug Abuse
Understanding Roma
Volunteerism

In the future we are planning to offer more collections on subjects, such as: criminal justice, corruption, child abuse, censorship, library and information science and others.

ELIGIBILITY
Institutions, not individuals, may apply.
Applicant institutions must be located in the countries of the OSI Network, including Belarus and Turkmenistan.
Applicant institutions must have facilities where collections will be open to the public.

In application of no more than 3 pages, please answer the following questions:

1. Describe briefly the history of your program or organization, its current work and its primary audiences.

2. Describe the scope of your organization's current collection.

3. How will you use the book collection? Who is the audience for this collection?

4. How will you make the books accessible to the public? What days and hours will the collection be open?

5. Have you ever received books on the same subject you are applying for from any other source? If so, which organization and when?

6. How will you publicize the availability of the collection? Do you have a reading area?

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Applicant institutions should apply to the Network Library Program.

Applicants should send one copy of the completed application form in English to Network

Library Program either electronically (preferred) (shirinyan@osi.hu), or via

IT IS THE APPLICANTS' RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE APPLICATION

ARRIVES

BY JUNE 14, 1999.

Selection will be done jointly by the Network Library Program and relevant

OSI Network Programs, such as: Network Women's Program, Roma Participation Program,

Volunteer Development Program, International Harm Reduction Development Program.

The NLP will notify recipients in July and arrange ordering and shipping of books in August. Recipients must confirm the receipt of books.

REPORTING

Upon receipt of collections, institutions that receive collections must submit a

report to the NLP containing the following:

. a detailed description of how the collection was used

. numbers and description of types of users of the collection

. days and hours the collection was open

. educational activities in which the books were used

. future needs for library development

. assessment of the usefulness of the books in the collection
